Surbiton Croquet Club Beginners' Coaching, Lesson 4                                                  
Introduction to Association Croquet Aim: to introduce Association Croquet, the meaning and use of bisques,
and short (14 point) croquet.
Session 1 (30 mins): Recap and Introduce Short Croquet                  
Introduce review of lessons 1-3, aims & objectives of short croquet, handicapping
                 
& bisques.
                 
Demonstrate using magnetic board: 4-balls, starting a game (A/B baulk), going
                 
first/second, laying tices, use of partner ball, getting innings, show “Aunt Emma”
                 
& progressive play.
                 
Apply by asking pupils to choose next shots when:
                 
1 player joined up other player split with the split player to play
                 
Both players joined up with one of the joined up players to play
                 
Player joined up at hoop1 (all clips on hoop 1) other player split, split player to
                 
play.
Session 2 (30 mins): Playing Short Croquet                  
Introduce as a demonstration of 4-ball croquet using bisques to correct mistakes.
                 
Demonstrate by coach making 4-ball break using bisques to correct (deliberate)
                 
errors.
                 
Explain making hoop of nearest ball to hoop, setting pilot & improving position of
                 
balls.
                 
Apply in pairs using alternate strokes to make 7 hoops – use bisques & magic foot
                 
to achieve objectives.
                 
Repeat with each pupil making 7 hoops under coached supervision.
Mid Session break (10 mins)
Session 3 (60 mins) Short Croquet games                  
Play 1 on 1 games refereed by coach
                 
Coach asks pupil to explain shots but doesn't correct errors
                 
Use bisques if necessary e.g. 1 per hoop per ball
                 
If time allows, play winner vs winner.
